Social Media As An Agent Of The Secondary Socialisation

Secondary socialization is an integral part of the individual’s life, including education and peer group. Social media is a character of modern mass media that is an influencer to people. Secondary socialisation, as it is used in this essay, can be defined as any agency that helps individuals to not only acquire knowledge, culture, or skills but also to develop their personality and think way as members of society. Education is the main social institution that affects almost 25% of people’s lives. This essay shows that while social media does not have the greatest impact on secondary socialization, it has a greater effect on individuals. Because it can impart knowledge, shape sound personalities, and have an influence on future status. However, the useful information, not uniqueness source, as well as ineffective social interaction negate the benefits of the social media.

The government is responsible for the education system. Most people in most areas will attend school at an early age to receive basic education. The education is intended to give people the knowledge and skills that are socially relevant in order to build their views. 1944). People can build their basic right or wrong judgment by using the correct alternative to thinking. Deming (2011) noted that this thought can in some ways reduce the crime rate and anti-social behaviour. In addition, the secret curriculum, which isn’t in the official timetables can influence their behaviour and opinion. Basic education provides the foundation to higher education. Gingell and Winch (2008) claim that this has a positive effect on personal growth. People are able to have strong cultural identities, as well as complete their personalities. Additionally, education has a direct impact on how individuals live their lives. It can also give them more control over their lives. For example, educated people often have a higher per capita income than those without. They have greater chances of finding a job. However, those who are not educated can only do simple jobs unless they have a special opportunity. Johnk (2016) also states that education levels can influence professional technical abilities, which can lead to people being promoted and achieving a higher status. Official institutions actually choose information from the education system to be useful and useful. Because of this, education has a lasting and positive impact on individuals. Social media is seen as a powerful tool for secondary socialization because it allows people to access a wide range of information. According to statistics from the UK, 30 percent of people found their news through social media in 2013, a rising trend. One more example: Press barons often use social networks to influence people’s opinions about something. But, social media is full of chaos information that makes it hard for people to understand. People have also been taught to think independently, which helps them avoid falling into this trap. This information is not accessible to the public easily. It may be invalid or even recreational information. This information has little or no impact on real life. You can easily find current news via Facebook, Twitter and other social media, but this information is far removed from your daily life. Social media is a way to share opinions. McCord Widom, Crowell and Crowell (2001), suggested that a peer-group crime model is more effective than a social media one. Education is an essential part of secondary socialization, and has a strong impact on people.

Social media’s popularity is also due to the large amount of interaction. Social media allows people to communicate with one another, regardless of distance or time. Social media can be used to make new connections and allow people to get to know each other better. Two-thirds, or three quarters of teens, have found new friends on social media. Nine out of ten teens use social media to connect with their friends and peer groups (Lenhart (2015)). But, people’s main connections are with those they know. Social media can be used to communicate with others. According to a Sheffield Hallam University study (2007), 90 percent of close friends are those who have met face-to-face. People must meet in person to have a lasting and trusting relationship. In addition, social media influences attitudes and behaviours less than real relationships. Therefore, a relationship via social media can be unstable. However, people’s behavior is usually influenced by their real lives.

The essay concluded that social media isn’t the most important in secondary socialization, but more of an incidental agent. Education system is the most important part of secondary socialization. Education system is a source of knowledge that builds individuals. You can find a lot of information online and interact with others, but the majority of it is useless and has no value. Social media influence is partly but the education system exists as the foundation. Secondary socialization has higher influence and its influence is greater. It is evident that social media has an increasing influence. However, it will not be the most influential in the near future.
